Highlanders Continue Dominant Season

The Glasgow Highlanders spent time apart this weekend, however, they had one thing in common. Success. The majority of the club attended the Wolf Point/Poplar Invitational in Wolf Point and a smaller contingent attended The “Cyclops” in Butte.
In Wolf Point, GWC had 60 wrestlers in attendance. The Highlanders continued their impressive season in the Northeast AAU Division by crowning 16 Individual Champions and 40 Top 3 place winners!
In Butte, the 15 Highlanders in attendance made a strong statement, as our team walked away with the Small Team Championship! It marks a 2nd consecutive Team Title at the Cyclops for the Glasgow Wrestling Club. The Cyclops is considered one of the premier regular season tournaments in Montana; so anytime you can put team hardware in the trophy case from the event it is certainly a sign of STRENGTH. The Team Championship was made possible in large part to 4 Individual Champions and 12 podium finishers.
Four of our Cyclops participants also took part in the Mining City Middle School Tournament in Butte on Saturday. With three of the four individuals securing a top 4 finish.
Next Saturday, the club heads east to the Poplar Invitational, while many of our 5th-8th Graders will head west to wrestle at the Havre Middle School Tournament on Saturday.

Highlanders Crush it on the Home Mats

Highlander Teammates Hunter Pierce & Asher Wersal Embrace After Match

A NEW Record 472 wrestlers from 17 different clubs competed in Scottie Gymnasium this past Saturday for the 2023 Glasgow Wrestling Club Invitational. Breaking last year’s total of 455.
We also had our own NEW RECORD 85 Highlanders competing on the home mats.
The event was kicked off with the traditional parade of athletes. Complete with Strobe lights, Fog Machines, Music, and introductions.
Wrestling wrapped up in less than 6 hours and at the end of the day the Highlanders had 19 Individual CHAMPIONS and 52 Top Three Finishers! Wow.

On Saturday, 57 of those same Highlanders headed 70 miles west to wrestle in the “Cover the Court” event in Malta. That event brought 294 competitors from 12 different clubs and GWC had the 2nd largest contingent in attendance. When the event came to a close, the Highlanders were able to crown 16 Individual CHAMPIONS and 43 Top Three Finishers!

This weekend we will head to the MonDak Open in Williston, North Dakota and the Border Brawl in Plentywood.

GWC Makes Noise in Montana and Wyoming

HIghlanders with some serious “Hardware” at the Wild West Championship

The Highlanders split up this weekend and experienced a lot of success at both events! 46 wrestlers stayed close to home and competed at the Wolf Point Invitational, while 21 veterans attended the Wild West Championship in Casper, Wyoming.
The Wolf Point Invitational featured 337 kids from 11 different clubs. The Highlanders won 67% of their individual matches on the day and crowned 10 individual CHAMPIONS. Twenty seven Top 3 finishes helped power a very solid performance for the local club in what was the season opener for many.
The 21 Highlanders attending Wild West represents a team record for attendees at the prestigious event. GWC ended up with 12 top 6 place finishers, which is also a new club record! We ended up with Nine top 3 finishers included Champion, Taden Sundeen, who is now a Back to Back Wild West Champion! A LOT of Hardware was brought back to our little corner of Montana. Good job kids and coaches.
The Club is back in action this coming weekend with the Glasgow Wrestling Club Invitational at Scottie Gymnasium on Saturday followed by the “Cover the Court” Tournament in Malta on Sunday.

Highlanders set RECORDS at Montana Open!

TenLea Sundeen doing battle. Photo by Amy Nelson, Billings Gazette

Wow! Great job Highlanders. We tied a club RECORD by bringing 53 kids to the big dance. The Montana Open at the Metra this weekend.
Just as they’ve seemingly done ALL season long, our guys and gals did NOT disappoint. We came away with a Club RECORD 5 Champions and another Club RECORD 24 top 6 Place Winners. 5 more Highlanders finished runner-up and just short of a Skull.
We finished 5th Place overall in the LARGE Team race out of an astonishing 177 clubs in attendance. The event featured a record 2,324 wrestlers. An awesome finish to an incredible season. Be proud Glasgow.
These successes are not possible without the hard work of our kids or the unwavering support of this community, our parents and extended wrestling family, the dedicated coaches, and each of those individuals in Board and Leadership positions. Thank you for making the Glasgow Wrestling Club the “Gold Standard” in the State of Montana. Short of our seven individuals heading to Iowa with Team Montana in April, this weekend marked the end of the 2022 season.
We had a record 125 kids in wrestling this season. (100 boys and 25 girls). Our goal is 150 next season and we already can’t wait till it’s time to get back on the mats!! Be on the lookout for all-offseason and summer camp information to be posted in the coming weeks.

Highlanders Set New Standard at Brodie Gorder

The Glasgow Highlanders finished 3-2 in Team Duals this past Saturday at the Brodie Gorder Iron Eagle Memorial Dual Tournament. That record was good enough for 4th place out of 16 teams at the prestigious event. The 4th place finish is the BEST finish in Club History at the event.
On Sunday, our whole club participated in the Brodie Gorder Individual Tournament at Sidney High School and turned in stellar day on the mats! GWC entered 46 grapplers into the competition, which was the 3rd most competitors out of 33 teams. We ended with 11 CHAMPIONS and 39 individual place winners. The Brodie Gorder is an event that is VERY competitive year in and year out and provides a great measuring stick for the next two weekend’s at AAU State and the Montana Open in the Billings Metra. GWC Crowns TWO at Middle School State

Coach Josh Sillerud embracing young Highlander Buddy Cole after a match in Plentywood

The stretch run is upon us! With only 3 weekends remaining, the Highlanders split up this past weekend at the “Border Brawl” in Plentywood and at the Montana Middle School State Wrestling Championships in Lewistown. It was another banner weekend for our GWC kids of ALL ages.
In Plentywood, we entered an event-best 35 wrestlers! The small inter-divisional meet featured 167 kids from 8 local clubs. The Highlanders were flat out dominant throughout. When the dust settled, GWC had captured 16 individual CHAMPIONSHIPS and 34 top-3 finishes. We won 75% of our matches overall and really set the tone for the rest of the season.
At Middle School State, thirteen of our 5th thru 8th grade grapplers turned in a solid overall performance finishing in 11th overall out of 49 teams at the event with 109 points. The 109 team points was good enough for 3rd place amongst Class B/C towns. The highlight of MS State for the Highlanders was TWO individual STATE CHAMPS! 8th Graders, William Kirkland (135) and Khye Gamas (140) brought home the GOLD. It is a 2nd consecutive MS State title for Gamas. Congrats to both gentleman! Allen Leslie, Andrew Linder, and Ethan Engstrom also secured impressive top 6 finishes at the prestigious event.
This coming weekend; the Glasgow Wrestling Club will attend the Brodie Gorder Memorial Tournament in Sidney. The team Duals will be held on Saturday and the individual tournament for ALL ages will be on Sunday. After that it is back to back weekends at the Billings Metra for AAU State and the Montana Open respectively. Here are the results from this past weekend below.

GWC is PEAKING at the Right Time.

The Highlanders sent a large contingent to the Glendive Invitational on Saturday and a smaller group to the Havre Middle School Invitational that same day. Again, our Highlanders came away with impressive results!
In Glendive, there were 13 Clubs in attendance. The Highlanders had the 2nd most wrestlers registered with 47. At the end of the day, an incredible TWENTY FOUR Highlanders were crowned CHAMPIONS and 41 Top-3 individual place winners were honored.
In Havre, we competed as a club team against the other programs that are in the meat of their regular Middle School season’s. With only 11 kids entered in the meet, the Highlanders walked away with 5th place out of 14 schools on the backs of four Individual CHAMPIONS and nine Top 3 finishers.
With less that a month of season left and only 4 competition weekends remaining, the Highlanders are really riding high at the moment! We expect BIG things in March. Our young kids will be at the Plentywood Invitational this coming Saturday while many of our 5th thru 8th graders will be at Middle School State in Lewistown.
